Checklist before Coming to Japan

Once you decide to study abroad, a variety of preparations and procedures are needed before coming to Japan. To ensure a fulfilling start to your life abroad as an exchange student, please do not forget the following.

Before coming to Japan

  • Obtain Visa for Studying Abroad

    It is necessary to acquire a “Student Visa” before coming to Japan.

  • Housing Application

    Arrangement for International House or an apartment.

Things to take care of immediately upon arriving in Japan

  • Submit a “Notification on Change of Address” form

    Complete application at Nagasaki City Hall or its branch offices

  • Join the National Health Insurance

    Complete application at Nagasaki City Hall
    Health Insurance

  • Open a Bank Account

    Students receiving a scholarship, please receive instructions from the Liaison Center for International Education Administration office.

  • Submission of International Student Card Registration

    Register student information with the Liaison Center for International Education Administration office.

  • Copy of Passport

    Make a copy of your passport and submit it to the Liaison Center for International Education Administration office.

  • International Student Orientation

    Especially newly arriving international students please make certain to attend the orientation.
    You will be informed of the date and time of the orientation upon your arrival in Japan.

  • Acquisition of Personal Identification Card

    International student identification cards can be received from the student affairs department.

  • Greeting Supervisors

    Please make certain to promptly meet your supervisors.

  • Meeting with Tutors

    International students who just arrived in Japan can use tutor system.
